    GM joins e-boat builder Pure Watercraft

    General Motors has acquired a 25 percent stake in Pure Watercraft, a Seattle-based developer of all-electric boating solutions. Both companies want to develop and market battery-electric watercraft with GM technology.


    The exact amount of the carmaker's investment in Pure Watercraft does not emerge from the GM announcement. Specific projects and joint products have not yet been announced either; according to GM, these will be announced at a later date.

    The first self-propelled electric container ship Yara Birkeland has completed its maiden voyage in the Oslo Fjord. A two-year test phase of the technology is now beginning before the ship is to be certified.

    The Norwegian shipbuilder Havyard has presented a design concept for electrically powered sightseeing ships for use in cities and fjords. The concept was developed as part of a cooperation agreement with the Norwegian research organization SINTEF last year.
