  • Greece plans to buy up to 15 percent of the purchase price

Greece plans to buy up to 15 percent of the purchase priceThe Greek government has announced extensive subsidies for electromobility in the country. The goal is for every third new vehicle in Greece to be electric in 2030.

In the first phase, 100 million euros will flow into purchase bonuses over a period of 18 months. Specifically, the purchase or leasing of electrically powered cars and light commercial vehicles is subsidized with 15 percent of the purchase price, with the state even assuming 25 percent of the costs for electric taxis. Together with tax benefits, electric vehicles should be up to 10,000 euros cheaper. In addition, electric vehicles are to be exempted from parking fees for two years. According to the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the plan also provides that "every new building should have the infrastructure for charging electric vehicles".

The eMobility measures are part of a ten-year climate protection plan that the government has now announced. In addition to electric cars, motorcycles and bicycles are also to be promoted. According to a report by the Reuters news agency, the proportion of electric cars in Greece is currently only 0.3 percent.

The plan also includes charging stations across the country. The Greek energy provider PPC, together with private companies, is to install 1,000 charging stations throughout Greece over the next two to three years, as well as another 10,000 charging stations in the medium term. Two “Memorandum of Understanding” have apparently already been signed for this, which according to a Greek specialist portal “are expected to be announced soon”. However, there are still no details on the expansion of the charging infrastructure.

Mitsotakis also announced that a Greek island should be a pioneer in a model project. On the island, which has not yet been named, the entire transport should be switched to electric vehicles.
