The eVito panel vans from Mercedes are expected to arrive in the second half of 2022. As part of a staggered leasing plan, the vehicles are initially leased from NZ Post and then offered to the postal service providers at more favorable terms by cooperation partner Sustainable Fleet Finance.
The background to this is that the New Zealand Post Office wants to completely electrify its own fleet by 2025 - plus 25 percent of the fleets of contractors. The latter should also be completely electric by 2030. The fleet of NZ Post and its contractors currently comprises around 2,131 vehicles, 80 percent of which are small vans. The majority of the vehicles - 1916 pieces - are owned by the contractual partners.
According to the media, there are currently around 400 electric delivery vehicles at NZ Post - especially small vehicles such as mopeds, bicycles and four-wheeled Paxsters.
