The order from Vy Buss was received earlier in the year, but Volvo Buses has only published it now. However, Volvo does not state the financial volume of the deal in the message.
The model ordered is the 7900 Electric Articulated model presented in autumn 2019 . This type of bus can carry up to 120 passengers. Volvo does not mention the exact battery capacity of the vehicles (maximum possible 396 kWh). The communication only says that Volvo and Vy Buss have carried out route analyzes and calculations "which form the basis for the optimization of the battery capacity of the buses".
But details are known about the loading strategy in Jönköping. At the beginning of May , ABB received the order to build ten pantograph high-speed chargers, each with 450 kW, in the city. The e-buses on lines 1 to 4 are to be supplied with electricity by the loaders. An intermediate charge should last between five and seven minutes.
According to Volvo, the vehicles are prepared for automatic speed control in certain geographic areas. With the so-called zone management, the buses are automatically braked when they approach schools, hospitals and other facilities in which many unprotected road users move.
"By making public transport more attractive, efficient and accessible with well-designed, quiet and emission-free high-performance buses, Jönköping shows how the city's public transport system can become more sustainable," said Håkan Agnevall, President of Volvo Buses. "This will be even more important in order to hold and attract new passengers after the Covid 19 pandemic."
