About 80,000 of these are said to be DC chargers, according to Chinese media. Above all, this is intended to simplify emission-free long-distance travel, and we are talking about a fast-charging network along 50,000 kilometers of motorways. BMW will include the "Intercity" fast charging stations from State Grid Electric Vehicle Service (EVS) in its charging network.
In addition, the two partners want to develop fast charging technologies that will reduce the charging time to 10 to 20 minutes. However, no details have yet been given. For now, the focus will be on expanding the existing network. By the end of the year, there will be a charging facility along the motorways every 50 kilometers.
BMW currently has 130,000 charging points in China and sold around 60,000 new energy vehicles in China in 2019. State Grid announced a charging network offensive in April : 78,000 new charging points - including 53,000 in private residential buildings and 18,000 for public use - are to be created by the end of the year. The investment amounts to 2.7 billion yuan, around 350 million euros.
BMW and State Grid are announced just a week after the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced that it would continue to build charging facilities and improve their interoperability, according to a report by the state-run Xinhua news agency.
