A few days after Tesla received approval for foundation work from the Brandenburg State Office for the Environment, work has apparently started. A new drone video shows how the first pit is being excavated.

"I think that even without the groundbreaking ceremony, we can say that Tesla has now groundbreaked," wrote the Twitter user about the uploaded drone video. Excavators started digging a large pit on Pentecost weekend. Since Tesla received permission last week to start work on the foundations at its own risk, it is very likely that after the clearing and leveling work, the first "groundbreaking" for the construction of the actual buildings has now been made . There is no official confirmation from Tesla for this.

According to environmentalists, Tesla had already started to post piles on May 14 - without any requirements or supervision. According to the Ministry of the Environment, however, this work was stopped because the lower water authority was not approved. But now it is there.

As with the clearing, Tesla carries out all work at its own risk: If the entire project is not approved, Tesla must remove the foundations at its own expense. When the planning application is approved is not yet clear - the hearings on the 370 objections to the building project could not take place in March as planned due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

As is well known, the Model Y for Europe is to be built in the "Giga Berlin" in Brandenburg from 2021. In the USA, Tesla has meanwhile significantly reduced the estimated delivery times for Model Y - from eight to twelve weeks previously to four to eight weeks. For the other model S, X and 3 series, the estimated delivery time decreased from five to seven to two to five weeks.

In combination with the recent price cut, US media is speculating whether Tesla will respond to falling demand in the United States. However, this was not usually the case with previous price changes. In addition, the delivery time for Model Y should also be closely related to production: Production has only been running since January, and improved and faster production after a few weeks and months seems normal. Added to this are the effects and changing market conditions of the corona pandemic.

For European Model Y prospects, this has no effect anyway: An official import of Model Y from the USA has still not been announced.
